Airing of the Quilts
I have to share with you a wonderful adventure Paul and I took recently. I have a rather significant birthday coming up soon and Paul wanted to do something special for me to celebrate it. I was so excited to hear that and asked him to take me to the Airing of the Quilts in Tunkhannock, PA the first weekend in October.
Now if you’ve never been to this or even heard of it (which was the case with me prior to this October) this is a wonderful one day quilt show in which most of the quilts are hung outside all over the lovely little town of Tunkhannock. There were also quilt displays in several buildings as well, including an antique quilt display in a church hall, a one woman show in the court house and another large display in one of the school buildings. There was also a wonderful lecture given by a couple that has been collecting antique quilts since 9/11.
We really loved the event. I know Paul was a little leery about the whole think before we went, but he was such a good sport. He went without complaint (or at least he didn’t complain to me!) even though I’m sure he probably could have thought of other ways he would have rather spent his time. In the end, I think he enjoyed it as much as I did. We had a fantastic drive to the town since it was a gorgeous fall weekend with lots of leaf peeping and we had a fun meal in a local restaurant called, Twigs – a really cute restaurant with lots of atmosphere as well as good food and great Salted Caramel Martinis – yum!
I’d like to share some of the pictures over the next few posts and maybe they’ll inspire you to attend next year’s one day festival the first weekend in October.
Aren’t they beautiful? Even if you aren’t a quilter, you can still appreciate their beauty and how much the add to their surroundings. They look so pretty on the houses, fences, porches, etc. that I’m sure the owners would love to keep them there year round. I hope you enjoyed seeing the display through our photos. I’ll be back with more soon.
Thanks for visiting,
